About Peppol

What is Peppol

Peppol stands for fast, efficient, and cross-border digital business.

The Peppol network and its associated document standards ensure that organizations worldwide can exchange business documents in a uniform manner. By agreeing on how information is structured and transmitted, systems can communicate with each other automatically—securely, reliably, and without the need for custom integrations.

Through Peppol, public and private organizations can send and receive standardized business documents, such as invoices and orders. This takes place within an open and secure network, governed by a binding set of agreements that ensures compliance with technical and organizational rules.

Peppol is not a portal and does not provide exchange services. Peppol is an infrastructure and a set of agreements that enables electronic exchange. Organizations connect via a Peppol-accredited service provider or through their software vendor.

No more closed networks with a custom solution for each customer or supplier. With a single connection via an accredited Peppol service provider, an organization can do business with any other Peppol participant, anywhere in the world.

The history of Peppol

Peppol was originally developed within Europe with the aim of simplifying electronic procurement and electronic invoicing. Since then, the network has evolved into a global system for exchanging digital business documents.

Today, governments and businesses in multiple countries across Europe and Asia, among others, use Peppol for secure and standardized data exchange.
