Connecting to Peppol: how do I do it?

Would you like to connect to Peppol as a software supplier of an ERP or accounting package? This process can be carried out in various ways, such as through a service provider or by becoming a service provider yourself. By connecting to Peppol, your services will be ready for the future. This page tells you how to connect to Peppol.

Determine in which way you want to connect to Peppol

As a software supplier, do you want to facilitate the use of Peppol for your customers? There are three ways to do this:

You can connect your software to the Peppol network via an API connection from a service provider. This service provider provides the technical connection and supplies the necessary access point, so that you can send and receive documents via Peppol.

Depending on the chosen service provider and your preferences, you can decide how much control you want to retain:

  • There are service providers that offer only a basic API, where you are responsible for converting your raw invoice data to an invoice in Peppol format. You can perform this enrichment yourself or outsource it to a third-party provider that specializes in this.
  • There are also service providers who, in addition to the basic API, also take care of converting your invoice data to an invoice in Peppol format.
  • And there are service providers that provide complete unburdening: in addition to a basic API, and converting your invoice data to an invoice in Peppol format. Do they also offer the ability to enrich invoices, but additional data.

Note! The connection and usage fees involved vary by service provider. So do the functionalities they can offer. Therefore, it is advisable to compare quotes and then select the service provider that best meets your needs. 

As a software supplier, you can also choose to become a Peppol service provider yourself. You will then provide a link between your software and the Peppol network yourself. 

Please note! To become a service provider yourself, you need to become a member of OpenPeppol. These membership fees vary and can be found on OpenPeppol's website. In addition, you must meet the conditions NPa has set for Peppol service providers, such as possession of an ISO 27001 certificate and compliance with the Peppol Authority Specific Requirements (PASR).

As a software supplier, you can also choose to become a service provider yourself, but outsource the technical management to a specialised service provider. This offers more control over your services without having to invest in the technical infrastructure yourself.  

Note! Membership in OpenPeppol is also mandatory with this method of connection, as is compliance with the NPa's conditions for becoming a service provider. However, the technical implementation is provided by a specialized service provider.

Functionalities for Peppol integration into your software

In order for your customers to take full advantage of Peppol, you can integrate several key functionalities into your software. These functionalities enable your customers to send and receive documents easily and efficiently through Peppol. By making these features visible in the user interface (UI), you increase the ease of use and accessibility for your customers.

Allows your customers to send basic invoices through Peppol. These are standard invoices with no additional or optional fields. The advantage for the customer is that using Peppol to send basic invoices makes the billing process faster, easier and less prone to errors.

This allows customers to receive basic invoices through Peppol. The advantage for the customer is that receiving basic invoices digitally ensures centralized and clear invoice management.

E-invoices from Peppol also include a number of optional fields that allow customers to include more information on the invoice than is strictly necessary for a basic invoice. Think of an order number, project number, booking code or contact information. Customer benefit: The more such optional fields on the Peppol invoice your customers can use, the better your software can meet their needs.

Allows customers to receive extended invoices through Peppol with additional company information. Think of an order number, project number, booking code or contact information. The advantage for the customer is that receiving extended invoices gives customers access to all the information they need.

Allows customers to respond to invoices received, such as by approving or rejecting them. The advantage for the customer is that responding directly to an invoice streamlines the approval and rejection process.

Allows customers to receive responses to invoices sent, such as acceptances or rejections. The customer benefit is that receiving invoice responses gives customers better insight into the status of their invoices.
