Cookie Statement of the Dutch Peppol Authority (NPa).
Peppolautoriteit.nl uses cookies and web statistics. Below you can read why. You will also see exactly which cookies the NPa places and for what purpose.
Cookies are subject to 2 laws:
- General Data Protection Regulation (AVG)
- Telecom Act (Tw)
General Data Protection Regulation (AVG)
The NPA uses cookies for research and web statistics to understand how visitors use the website. This information can help to improve the website. For example, by supplementing information or increasing user convenience.
To this end, the NPA, like any website, collects visitors' IP addresses. These are stored in so-called log files. The log files are stored on the web server for five days, so that they are available to the web statistics program Piwik (Pro). After that, the log files are kept for 90 days for security reasons only and are also viewed only for that reason.
The Ministry of General Affairs has taken measures to minimize the traceability of visitors to our website. We do this by discarding the last octet (digit group) of each IP address immediately after importing the log files into Piwik. This is done in a temporary memory before the IP addresses are saved in Piwik.
After this, there is no more processing of personal data, because the NPa does not hold any personal data.
We collect the following data in Piwik:
- equipment and software used (devices, browsers, operating system)
- links used to get to the NPA website
- links used within the website
- search terms used in the search engine on the website itself
Piwik gets this data from the log files of the Web server. These log files remain in Piwik's database for 31 days. After that, they are deleted. All that remains is an aggregated log file. This provides an annual report on website visits.
The NPA does not provide personal data to third parties unless it is necessary to report crimes.

Cookies for web statistics
In general terms, websites must ask visitors for permission to place cookies. The cookie law makes an exception for cookies that are not privacy-sensitive. For example, for cookies that track visitor numbers.
For cookies that have little or no invasion of privacy, no permission from the visitor is required. These are often cookies that make a website work better. This category also includes analytical cookies. Websites use analytical cookies to keep track of visitor statistics, for example. This gives them better insight into the functioning of the website. Analytical cookies have little impact on privacy.

Cookies for web statistics
Cookie name: Cookie_pk_id
Purpose: Is the visitor new or has the visitor visited the site before?
Cookie name: Cookie _pk_ses
Purpose: Which pages has the visitor accessed?
Cookie name: Cookie _pk_ref
Purpose: Which site did the visitor come from?
Cookies for research
On the NPA website, research is conducted among website visitors. A research script is loaded for this purpose. The script determines whether research questions are shown to a visitor and which questions they are. The script allows the visitor's browser to keep track of whether the visitor has recently participated in a survey, or has indicated that he does not wish to participate. With the help of the cookies, the answers given in the questionnaires can be linked to the visitor's behavior. This is done on an anonymous basis and no personal data is involved. The following cookies are used for the study.
Cookies for research
Cookie name: cntUid
Purpose: Is the visitor new or has the visitor visited the site before?
Cookie name: cntSid
Purpose: What actions were performed (which pages were visited, was the inquiry bar shown or not, was the inquiry bar responded to or not)?
No tracking cookies
Tracking cookies are cookies that can track visitors as they browse other websites. The NPA does not use tracking cookies. The website therefore does not support the DoNotTrack setting of browsers. The NPA complies with the laws applicable in the Netherlands.
When posting YouTube videos on the website, we add a no-follow cookie. We do this so that the video can be shown directly on this website , but without being used for advertising or remarketing purposes. Please note that this no-cookies setting can be overridden if you are logged into a Google account and visit websites. This is beyond our control.
