Peppol: the international standard for e-invoicing, e-ordering and e-time cards
Whether it concerns e- invoicing, e-ordering or e-time cards: Peppol is the international standard for your organisation. For now and the future. With Peppol, exchanging invoices, orders and time cards is safer, faster and cheaper than with a paper version or PDF. In the Netherlands and abroad, regardless of your company size. The Dutch central government and many local authorities and private organisations have already connected to Peppol. In fact: if you do business with the central government or with specific countries, e-invoicing via Peppol is sometimes a hard requirement.
Your Peppol invoice is processed without human intervention, directly from one system into another. Peppol thus makes many administrative operations unnecessary. For example, entering certain operations twice is unnecessary when you make optimal use of Peppol. As a result, you need to spend less time on your accounting, leading to lower administration costs.
Within 10 minutes, the invoice is visible in your customer's system. This makes it more likely that an invoice will be paid quickly.
In several ways, Peppol leads to greater ease of use when sending and processing invoices, orders and time cards. Thanks to Peppol it is possible to:
- exchange orders and invoices quickly and securely;
- automatically book messages;
- check the status of your documents in the interim;
- invoice uniformly from the same channel - e.g. your accounting package;
- exchange messages with all organisations connected to Peppol, worldwide;
- do business with countries, companies and governments where Peppol is mandatory;
- do business without logging into a customer portal;
- easily monitor your cash flow and make liquidity forecasts;
- make decisions based on real-time data soon.
Peppol is secure and reliable. For example, the identity of the sender and receiver is checked beforehand. Therefore fake invoices do not stand a chance. Also, the authenticity and integrity of the data are fully guaranteed during data transport. This greatly reduces the risk of fraud. Exchanging messages via Peppol is done via reliable infrastructure and a solid agreement system, overseen by the Netherlands Peppol Authority (NPA).
By transferring invoices quickly and securely, there is no need to retype information. This reduces the risk of errors. In addition, the invoice is processed directly in the administration of sender and recipient. This rules out 'lost' invoices.
The European Union has designated e-invoicing as the new standard. In doing so, the Dutch government has chosen Peppol as the standard for e-invoicing since it meets the European standard. In addition, the 'connect once, reach all' principle applies with Peppol: once connected to Peppol, your organisation can exchange electronic messages with any organisation worldwide that is connected to Peppol. Whether you are an SME or responsible for the administration of a large company, with Peppol your organisation is prepared for a digital future.
Moreover, the scope of Peppol is wider than the EU; countries outside the EU also make e-invoicing via Peppol central. However, each member country can add its own additional rules to the universal Peppol standard for electronic invoicing, the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0. In the Netherlands, this is NLCIUS, a derivative of the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 standard. This Dutch standard is managed by the Standardisation Platform E-invoicing (STPE).
Because Peppol is an international standard, it is possible to do business worldwide with all organisations connected to the Peppol network. Also with countries where Peppol is mandatory. The Dutch central government and various Dutch corporates have already connected to Peppol. In fact: if you do business with the central government or with specific countries, e-invoicing is sometimes a hard requirement.
